Building on the success of its ongoing online talks, European Bioplastics (EUBP) is proud to introduce a new topic in its webinar series: “Advancements in Recycling of Bioplastics.”
This series aims to foster discussions on the latest research, technological advancements, and scaling-up opportunities in bioplastics recycling. It provides a valuable platform for industry leaders, researchers, and stakeholders to exchange insights and innovations in an informal yet informative setting.
Key Objectives:
- Share the latest research findings and technological advancements in bioplastics recycling.
- Highlight existing commercial recycling technologies.
- Facilitate connections between EUBP members, industry players, and leading research organisations.
- Gather research and innovation input to support policy positions/papers
The first talk took place on 27th February and featured Lorette du Preez, Head of Sustainability and Environmental Affairs at European Bioplastics (EUBP), who introduced and kicked off the series, setting the stage for discussions on the future of bioplastics recycling. Javier Grau Forner, Researcher in Mechanical Recycling at AIMPLAS, provided an in-depth look at the current state of bioplastics waste management, its impact on conventional plastics systems, and the challenges in recovery and mechanical recycling.
The second talk took take place on 18 March 2025 and featured Chrysanthi Argeiti from the Agricultural University of Athens, who presented on non-thermal air plasma technology for efficient post-consumer bioplastics waste recycling. Additionally, David Costa from GREENE, provided an in-depth look at thermo-chemical recycling for bioplastics.
Our upcoming talk will take place on the 30 April 2025 and will focus on enzymatic and chemical recycling for bioplastics. Save the date!
In this talk, Arno Cordes from ASA Spezialenzyme GmbH will present on Enzymatic Recycling for Bioplastics focusing on the efficiency of enzyme use in the degradation of polymers and on the level of maturity for industrial applications. Jan Pels from TORWASH will provide an in-depth look at TORWASH technology for chemical recycling focusing on depolymerizing polyesters and subsequent repolymerizing them into polyesters with exactly the same characteristics of virgin materials.
The EUBP Talks will continue to be held monthly until June 2025. The series will culminate in an in-person wrap-up event on 3 June 2025 in Brussels (15:00 – 18:00 CET/CEST).
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain expert insights and engage in discussions on the evolving landscape of bioplastics recycling!
