In each issue of the European Bioplastics Newsletter, we present 5 facts about a member of European Bioplastics. In this issue, Dr Raimund Lassak, Head of Sales & Marketing at SoBiCo GmbH, shares some interesting insights on his company.
5 facts about: SoBiCo
- SoBiCo has developed a new type of PLA-Copolymer that eliminates the disadvantages of PLA in terms of elongation at break. In addition to the high elongation at break (without the addition of plasticizers), Plactid® is characterized by a very high bio-basedness (80-95%), recyclability, and long-term stability.
- Beside the PLA-Copolymers of the Plactid® series, SoBiCo also offers additives based on the new PLA copolymers for compounders.
- By developing a monomer recycling process for PLA materials (post-industrial, post-consumer), SoBiCo customers can implement a closed-loop for their products.
- In the BioBatch product group, SoBiCo offers types of bioplastics that are suitable for the production of films for food packaging through to mulch film applications and are biodegradable.
-
In addition to the “pure” PLA-Copolymers, these can also be used in combination with other bioplastics such as TPS or Standard-PLA to produce biocompounds with and without natural fibers.
