The 2024 edition of the leading business and networking event for the bioplastics industry in Europe will showcase how biopolymers are driving innovation forward for more sustainability, resource efficiency, and functionality. We will dive into a wide range of important areas in this year's sessions:

  • Bioplastics frontline: What's shaping the industry
  • The future of bioplastics: Bridging policy, science, and society
  • Bioplastics Update: Market and industry news
  • Advancing compostable plastics: New collaborations and innovations
  • Exploring environmental impacts and sustainability of bioplastics
  • Biodegradability explored: Environmental pathways of biodegradable plastics
  • Biobased plastics: Championing performance and sustainability
  • Global landscape: Regional insights and Feedstock trends

This year’s conference will start on 10 December with the question: What is shaping the bioplastics industry? Answers to this question will be provided by, among others, Theodora Nikolakopoulou, Policy Officer responsible for Bioeconomy, chemicals, and cosmetics, who will present perspectives on biodegradable polymers in the context of the EU Fertilising Products Regulation. Rhodes Yepsen, Executive Director at BPI, will focus on the urgency of aligning our work on policy, standards, research, and compostability claims in the face of a Global Plastics Treaty. In the afternoon, the latest Bioplastics market data will be presented, followed by insights into policies & regional market trends in the Middle East & India by Marc Verbruggen, CEO at Emirates Biotec. René Bethmann, Senior Innovation Manager at VAUDE Sport, will provide the brand owners’ perspectives on biobased and bio-attributed plastics and innovative implementation.

On 11 December, Miriam Weber, CEO of Hydra, will discuss Microplastic persistence and the environmental impact of biodegradable versus non-degradable polymers. Patrizia Pfohl, Lab team leader - Microplastics & Nanoplastics at BASF, will share findings on biodegradable mulch film. Christian Bonten, Head of the Institut and Chairholder at IKT Stuttgart, will focus on biobased plastics in technical and long-term applications.

The hybrid format of this year’s event will allow you to either join in person at the Titanic Hotel Chausseestraße Berlin, offering fantastic networking opportunities, or comfortably log in from your home base. Secure your  delegate pass today  and be part of the leading conference of the international bioplastics community!

Another highlight of the EBC 24 is the exhibition, which is dedicated exclusively to bioplastics. It is the ideal platform for your company to demonstrate your products and services, increase brand awareness, build new business relationships, and gain instant market feedback. In our additional virtual exhibition, you will be able to showcase your company through digital content and connect with our online attendees. If you, too, would like to present your organisation at the exhibition, secure your booth here

In addition, we also offer two free side events alongside EBC 24:
On 09 December from 17:00 until 20:00 CET, we will hold a side event on recycling approaches and technologies in collaboration with EU-funded projects in research and innovation. On 12 December from 09:00 to 15:30 CET, we are excited to celebrate the successful completion of the EU-funded project PRESERVE: The Bio-based Packaging Revolution.

If you want to learn more about the location or book a hotel room, please find all the information here.

We look forward to welcoming you in Berlin or online!
