bio!TOY 2023

Almost half of the environmental footprint of the toy world is determined by the materials used. Climate protection and resource conservation depend to a large extent on whether more recycled materials and materials made from renewable resources are used in the future. How can the change "Away from fossil - towards circular, renewable raw materials!" succeed strategically and practically? These are the guiding questions of the 3rd bio!TOY conference which will be held on 21 and 22 March 2023 in Nuremberg/Germany. This year’s bio!TOY will bring together 25 pioneers, including toy companies such as EGO, Mattel, or Schleich, as well as manufacturers of circular biobased plastics, amongst others, Braskem, Borealis, TotalEnergies Corbion, or FKuR to discuss the range of possible materials, user experiences, and associated goals. The latter have been successfully demonstrating for years how it is possible to use innovative, sustainable materials for toy production and bring them to market.

The 3rd bio!TOY conference (hybrid event - on-site & online) will be held in English, and there is an early bird discount until 31 January. Further information about the program and the registration can be found here

Workshop: BIOnTop novel biobased packaging: From research to market? Meet the experts, explore business opportunities

On 10 May 2023, the BIOnTOp project will hold the workshop “BIOnTop novel biobased packaging: From research to market? Meet the experts, explore business opportunities”, which will take place at the Interpack fair. The workshop offers insights on the latest research developments and on the upscaling of novel biobased, recyclable packaging materials. The goal is to foster potential collaborations for the uptake of the project demonstrators by market players. During the event, BIOnTop experts will give short presentations followed by an interactive format that brings you in dialogue with the demonstrators' representatives. BIOnTop has focused on recyclable materials (mechanically and organically), home compostable mono-materials, multilayer trays and films compatible with modified atmosphere packaging, recyclable and reusable coated woven fabrics, and secondary packaging from secondary raw materials). The developed demonstrators find potential applications in tea bags, trays, films, bags, food wraps, for fruits and vegetables, dairy products, but also for personal care products.

This workshop is specifically addressing business operators that participate at Interpack. Please note that this event is NOT open to the general public. There is a limited number of seats.

VIII International Seminar Biopolymers & Sustainable Composites

AIMPLAS, the Plastics Technology Centre, is organizing the eighth edition of its International Seminar on Biopolymers and Sustainable Composites, which will be held on 1-2 March 2023 in Valencia, Spain. This consolidated seminar gives a comprehensive overview on a growing sector. Its previous edition in March 2020 attended over 250 people and featured more than twenty speakers. The international seminar aims to promote the discussion about challenges and opportunities of bioplastics and sustainable biocomposites. The industry has shown strong growth rates in recent years and is forecasted to triple its production by 2026. The two-day seminar has therefore been divided into four thematic sessions: innovations in bioplastic materials, success stories of leading companies, standardization and certification, and environmental impact of bioplastics in open environments.
