European Bioplastics concludes EBC24 on a high note
Around 350 attendees gathered in Berlin and online to attend the 19th edition of the European Bioplastics Conference, EBC24. This year, the conference featured close to 50 speakers, including leading experts, researchers, and industry stakeholders. Additionally, 54 companies, researchers and institutions showcased a high diversity of new products, materials, and applications at our conference exhibition.

European Bioplastics unveils the latest Market data
European Bioplastics presented its 2024 edition of the market development update during EBC24 taking place in Berlin, Germany. The report confirms the continuous growth of the global production capacities of bioplastics. The global bioplastics production capacity is set to increase significantly from around 2.47 million tonnes in 2024 to approximately 5.73 million tonnes in 2029, as the report shows.

Progress and Challenges at INC-5 Negotiations in Busan
The fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) in Busan, South Korea, aimed to finalise a legally binding Global Plastics Treaty but ended without consensus. Due to major divergences around key elements of the future Treaty, the session has been extended to INC-5.2, with the date and location still to be determined.

EUBP publishes a position on End-of-life options for bioplastic products
The properties of the wide range of bioplastic materials make them suitable to be used in a large variety of applications. Bioplastics play an important role in achieving environmental goals such as providing lower carbon footprint products compared to fossil-based plastics, and additional end-of-life options. This position paper covers: Prevention, Reuse, Recycling, Energy Recovery and Landfill.

Alternative feedstock for biobased plastics: Bridging the gap between research and the market (White Paper)EUBP Talk Series Wrap Up
With the contribution of BioSupPack, EU Project LUCRA, MoeBIOS, CAFIPLA, PERCAL, and many other projects, we have now published the report on the workshop held on 16 October 2024 in Brussels. At the workshop, we discussed the opportunities of using alternative feedstock to produce bioplastics and addressed the challenges of bioplastics sorting and recycling. The proceedings of this event are now online.

Recycling technologies for bioplastics: What is next? Side Event to the EBC24 on the 9 December 2024
As the bioplastics market grows, it is essential to address the issue of recycling biodegradable bioplastics and to study their most effective recycling pathways, to be able to manage bioplastic products at their end of life. Bioplastic waste does not yet constitute a relevant amount of the total plastic waste (being only 1% in weight).
